OCM BOCES students score in top 3 at SkillsUSA

OCM BOCES students score in top 3 at SkillsUSA

Twenty-eight OCM BOCES students from 10 school districts qualified for the New York State SkillsUSA championships in April because of exceptional performances at a regional SkillsUSA qualifying event held Feb. 9 at SUNY Morrisville.

All of the state qualifiers placed in the top three of their respective competitions, including two teams of four from the OCM BOCES Cortlandville Campus who placed in the Health Knowledge Bowl.

Additionally, OCM BOCES had one student from Chittenango — Matt Byrne (in photo) — who campaigned and won his bid to become a New York State SkillsUSA Zone 2 vice president. SkillsUSA co-advisors Heather Hardke and Danielle Curtis believe this is the first time an OCM BOCES student has won a statewide SkillsUSA office.

“We are extremely proud of all of our students who competed, as well as our SkillsUSA advisors and program instructors who helped prepare students to compete,” Career & Technical Education Director Eric Comtois said in an email to high school principals.

The state competition is set for Thursday, April 25, at the New York State Fairgrounds. The group photo shows the large SkillsUSA contingent of 58 students from Cortlandville who competed at SUNY Morrisville. Rebecca Robertson and Christine Bosco are Skills USA co-advisors in Cortlandville.
